Voice

  • UC Voice (IP) - The standard telephone service at Virginia Tech delivers voice communications over the data network using Voice over IP (VoIP) technologies. Features include 5-digit calling to users on the VT system, CallerID, Call Waiting, multi-party/ad-hoc conferencing, unlimited direct-dialed domestic long-distance, unified messaging service,  mobility service.
  • Digital - Digital voice service provides enhanced availability in the event of network outages, but offers a reduced feature set compared to UC Voice service. Offers full-featured, highly reliable, enterprise-grade communications suitable for use in offices, conference rooms, and common areas.
  • Analog - basic telephone service suitable for use in offices and conference rooms. Analog service is also utilized to support elevator phones, emergency blue-light telephones, fax machines, existing conference phones, and modems.  On-campus residential students may choose to subscribe to an analog telephone voice service.
  • Cellular - NI&S offers cellular voice, data, and mobile broadband subscriptions and equipment utilizing VITA and GSA contracts for discounted rates and special deals from a variety of providers.

NI&S has developed self-study training guides to Unified Communications services, including desktop telephones, mobility & softphones, headsets, and button modules.

Mobility

The Unified Communications Mobility Package allows the use of a smartphone as though it was part of the Virginia Tech telephone network.
